The President of the Army Orienteering Association (AOA) agreed at an AOA meeting on Fri 8 Jan 21 that Army Orienteering would remain suspended until 1 Mar 21. Whilst a further official assessment is due to take place on 22 Feb, it is already clear that the Government is very unlikely to approve the resumption of outdoor sport until at least after the currently anticipated return of English pupils back to schools from 8 Mar. Whilst there are indications that outdoor sport will be permitted in England within a few weeks thereafter, Army orienteering will have to wait for approval from both British Orienteering, as the National Governing Body, in consultation with the Government, and Army HQ.
Therefore it can be expected that the currently scheduled events in March will have to be postponed. These are likely to fill most of the current gaps in the programme in May. The meeting on 22 Feb will aim to agree a new schedule, particularly for MLS, for Mar/Apr. Those MLS units who have already offered to host events in May and June are unlikely to be affected.
Currently, planning for the 2021 Inter Unit Championships on 19/20 May would continue. The 2021 Inter Corps & Individual Night & Day Championships are planned to take place on 13/14 Nov on Long Valley North, Aldershot.
