Army Orienteering Association (AOA) Update - 6 Nov 20

1.    It will be obvious to all that the Lockdown in England from 5 Nov to 2 Dec agreed by the Government on Wednesday translates into no Army Orienteering events for at least that period. Subject to COVID restrictions, and Army HQ approval, the AOA plans are as follows:

a.    The Military League South (MLS) hopes to re-start on Wed 9 Dec, with an event on Ash South; entries for it will only open when we have high confidence that it will take place.  A counting league event is also proposed for Wed 16 Dec at Mytchett.

b.    The 2020 Inter Corps Championships at Tweseldown and Long Valley (North) are being postponed until Sat 16 Jan 21 (Night) and Wed 20 Jan 21 (Day), subject to Training Area allocation.

c.     Over the Festive period, two events are planned: a BAOC Urban event in Winchester on Wed 23 Dec 20, and the Nick Bateson Memorial Long-O on the Barossa Range Danger Area on Wed 6 Jan 21, which will count for the MLS season..

d.     All three Services have agreed that the Inter Service Championships scheduled for 6 Jan 21 are now cancelled.  The UK Armed Forces Orienteering Team 2021 will be based on selections made earlier this year and on known form, if the Match against the British Universities Combined Sports is able to take place in March 2021.

2.   The restrictions on British Orienteering activities are detailed in this link (also accessible through the ‘Orienteering News’ links from BOF on right hand side of BAOC home page).
